I’m excited that on Thursday, February 17, I will be participating with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, Governor Mark Dayton and other high-ranking federal officials in kicking off the national “New Markets, New Jobs” tour right here in Minneapolis.
The tour is designed to help small and medium-size businesses grow exports and grow jobs, and it makes perfect sense that the Obama Administration has chosen Minneapolis to kick off this important tour. Minneapolis–Saint Paul has long been home to globally-oriented companies that have sustained our local economy by exporting, and as a global metropolitan area, we are also home to many dynamic small businesses that are well positioned to take advantage of this important initiative.
As President Obama said in the State of the Union address, “the more we export, the more jobs we create here at home.” I look forward to welcoming and working closely with Secretary Locke, Governor Dayton and others to create opportunities for our region’s small and medium-size businesses to grow new jobs through growing exports.
